Joes Win Game One But Unable to Hold in Game Two
Joes Win Game One and Lose Game Two Late to Monarchs
Joes played in Michigan for their second day of three in a doubleheader against the Michigan Monarchs.
The Hamilton Joes would strike first in game one with a wild pitch scoring Nate Colyer in the bottom of the first inning. One run would be all Dale Ellis needed in seven innings as he was dominant on the mound. He would throw a complete-game shutout in seven innings with two walks and five strikeouts. Ellis was in complete control of the game and had some big help from Colyer with a putout at the plate to keep the runs off the board for the Monarchs. Joes would score more runs in the fourth, with a two-run single by Brady Bowen and a double steal by Bowen and Colyer. Joes would lead 4-0, and that would be the final score of game one.
The bats for the Joes would come out hot going into game two. They would strike first in the top of the first, starting with a sacrifice fly from Peter Heintz to score AJ Gundler. Gavin Brewer would hit a base knock to score Brady Bowen. Joes would double steal again with Brewer stealing second and Bowen stealing home to score another. Preston Zumwalt would double to left field, scoring Brewer as the Joes would take an early 4-0 lead.
Sean Parker of the Monarchs would settle into the game after the first. He would not allow another run for the next three innings. Eli Wagner would be the Joes starter in game two, and he was great through five innings of scoreless baseball. He would go back out to try and get through six, and he would get the first batter out of the inning, then run into trouble. Chance Sobbry would walk, and Casey Robertson and Jason Thomas would both single to load the bases. Wagner would throw a wild pitch to score Sobbry, then walk the batter, Ryan McKay. Maddux Bach would single off Wagner, and that would end his day. Trayce Mercer would come into the game with the bases loaded. Mercer would unfortunately allow the runners to score without giving up a base hit from two wild pitches and a passed ball. The score would be 5-4 Monarchs, and that would end up being the final of game two.
Joes and Monarchs would end up trading wins in today’s doubleheader, but the Joes look to try and steal game one of the suspended game one tomorrow. They currently trail 4-7 in the fourth, and they will play the final doubleheader between both teams tomorrow afternoon. Game one tomorrow will start at 4:05 p.m.
