Joes Take the Series Against the CopperHeads, 12-8
The Hamilton Joes win their second game in a row at home and the series against the Southern Ohio Copperheads.
The Copperheads would take an early lead in the first with two bases loaded walks and two runs scored on a passed ball from the catcher, Gavin Brewer. Starting pitcher Carter Sellers was unable to get out of the first due to command struggles and Eli Wagner came to get the Joes out of the first down 4-0. Copperheads would keep up the pressure in the next two innings with a run in each to take a 6-0 lead going into the bottom of the third
Joes would spark a rally in the bottom of the third with first baseman Eric Fleetwood, leading off the inning on a hit-by-pitch. AJ Beggs would later double to left making it second and third for Alex Koelling. He would work a walk with a full count to load the bases for Brady Bowen. Bowen would reach on an error by Copperheads third baseman Nate Silvus, which allowed Fleetwood and Beggs to score. Ryder Kirtley would drive both runners in with a single to bring the Joes within reach at 6-4.
The inning would continue with the Joes loading the bases with a hit-by-pitch from Parker Falkenstein and a walk from AJ Gundler. Fleetwood, in his second at-bat of the inning, walked to score another run. AJ Beggs would walk as well to tie the game at 6-6. Ashton Bennight hit a single to take the lead for the Joes and they would not look back from there. They would add on another run to cap off an eight run inning to make the score 8-6.
The Joes would go on to score some insurance runs in the fifth inning with a sacrifice fly from Bowen, and an RBI single from Ryder Kirtley. Bennight would have a sacrifice fly in the sixth, scoring an additional run. Eric Fleetwood would cap off the scoring for the Joes with a tape measure shot to left center to give the Joes the lead 12-6.
The Copperhead would try to rally by scoring two runs in the ninth and having the bases loaded, but Erik Ronquist closed the door and secured the win for the Joes.
Joes get their second win of the season and the series win against the Copperheads. They will look for their second win in a row against the Flag City Sluggers Friday night, at Foundation Field.
