Joes drop three in a row to the Mariners, 8-5

Joes Get Swept By Mariners, Lost 8-5


After a slight weather delay at Foundation Field, the Joes kicked off the series final against the Grand Lake Mariners. 


The scoring would start early in the game with the RBI groundout from Mariners first basemen, Matthew Hutchinson, and a sacrifice fly from Hudson Dunn. Starting pitcher for the Joes, Eli Wagner, would settle in after that, going four and a third with three ks. 


Joes would rally back in the bottom half of the second inning with Brady Bowen’s RBI single to score Ryder Kirtley and Bowen would go on to score from a wild pitch later in the inning, tying the game up at 2-2.


The game would go scoreless until the top of the fifth when Parker Vaughn of the Mariners hit a RBI double to give the mariners the lead 3-2. The score would stay the same until the ninth because of strong bullpen outings from both teams.

Erik Ronquist, Dylan Kaiser, and Hudson Boring all had strong performances out of the bullpen with 3 innings of shutout ball with six strikeouts. The Mariners only had two pitchers until the top of the ninth, with starting pitcher Joseph Lafkas going four innings and Cournell Bennett McCoy throwing another four in relief. 


The ninth inning is where the game got crazy with the Mariners scoring five runs off a sacrifice fly from Huston Dunn, two RBI singles from Luke Wildes and Brandt Kendall, and a double from Matthew Aldridge. This would give the Mariners an 8-2 lead going into the bottom of the ninth. 


The Joes would try to rally with a bases-loaded walk from Bowen, and a couple of passed balls that would score Kamden McAlpin and Ryder Kirtley. Joes had the bases loaded with one out, and the magic ran out as they ended the game with a final score of 8-5. 


Joe's start the season 0-3 and look to bounce back Tuesday, June 9th at Foundation Field against the Southern Ohio Copperheads.

Joes Surrender to Scouts, 5-0

Joes finished the last set of the year to the Xenia Scouts. Scouts are coming off a win where the Joes struggled to produce and their first win in July. Joes are still trying to win the series after the series going even at 1-1. Scouts would strike first in the bottom of the third with Bo Sulley coming around to score on a passed ball. He would reach off a single and steal second and third before scoring. It was a quiet game from both offenses combined. Both sides would struggle all game. Both teams would hit an RBI, but the Scouts were able to get runs in regardless. Scouts would be able to get runs in from walks, passed balls, and errors. They would score their second run with a walk from Dawson Cleveland to score Steve Schneider for their second run of the game. Mayo Fernandez would come around to score later in the inning from a throwing error from Alex Gay to make it a 3-0 game. Joe's pitching would still struggle in this game, allowing ten walks as a unit. Joe’s would surrender two more runs to make it 5-0 as they weren’t able to put any runs on the board in this game and lost 5-0. Joes will go into the All-Star break with their playoff spot secured. Joes will start a series with Grand Lake to finish the year and to start the playoffs.
